It's nice to see cross-hatching surviving into the digital media. tried it myself recently (well a month or so back, and it's quite interesting doing so)

Yes, it's quite difficult until you've got your settings just right. It took me a couple of years to get that far. I love the variations in intensity and tone you can get with cross hatching but it's really hard work. Of course it works well if you set your picture in an era when cross-hatching and engraving were king. :)

Heee, I want to read this book again! It's been years. I also like the idea of adapting novels into comics; that's something I think about as well.
